After twelve years, a 27-year-old public relations senior account manager thinks she’s finally past losing her mother to a freak accident. Her career is red hot, her loft is huge, and her one-night stands are often. She relies on no one. So, it comes as no surprise to her when she lands the biggest client of her career – a controversial androgynous nonbinary singing superstar. But when a chance encounter brings a young girl with a missing mother into her life, the details around her mother’s death and paranoid delusions start to haunt her. She must suddenly learn to balance her own mental illness, the memories of her mother, as well as the added burden of an unexpected young girl in need.

About

“I want to present a different face of mental illness, not the sea foam green psych wards, padded walls and waiting rooms, not Natalie Portman in Black Swan or Jack Nicholson in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest or most frighteningly Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho or Joaquin Phoenix in the Joker. It shouldn’t be associated with fear, guilt, shame or otherness. Mental illness looks like me, it looks like you, it looks like our friends and family.

A Hidden Life provides a fresh and modern take on what exactly mental health means to us all.”

Stephanie Jones - Desiree Thomas-10
